2. Clean Air
The air must be clean enough not to represent a risk to human health or to animals, plants or cultural assets.
This objective is intended to be achieved within one generation.
The outcome within a generation for this environmental quality objective should include the following:
Concentrations of air pollutants will not exceed low-risk levels for cancer
or target values for protection against diseases or effects on plants,
animals,materials and cultural heritage objects. The target values will be
set with reference to persons suffering from hypersensitivity and asthma.

The Environmental Objectives Council’s assessment is that the objective Clean Air will be very difficult or not possible to achieve by 2020, even if further action is taken. No clear trend in the state of the environment can be seen.
